The
name Michael Anthony Hughes embodied in the title of
the Foundation is that of a dearly loved son and student
whose life was cut short by death at only nine years
old on March 25th, 1993, just as he was preparing to
complete his third year of elementary school at Maurice
W. Downing Elementary school in Malverne, New York.
Michael Anthony Hughes’s death was sudden and
tragic. However, perhaps the most disturbing reality
of this tragedy was that Michael had a dream. A dream
that he never saw realized. Michael wanted to read.
He struggled for years up late at night picking up everything
and anything in front of him. He was always asking his
sister, Titanya to help him. Rooted deeply in a religious
household, Michael often read the Bible for comprehension
not only of the words but the meaning of life Michael
learned courage and faith while trying to learn to read.
